The VSAC GEAR UP Mentoring Program, funded by the Vermont State GEAR UP Grant, matches VSAC employees with local students to provide them with the opportunities and assistance to achieve success in high school and beyond. GEAR UP mentors act as caring, consistent role models who support and nurture students’ personal development and academic success. The program matches current VSAC employees with students at the Winooski Middle School in one-to-one mentoring relationships. Students are all referred by guidance staff and express a desire to participate in the program. Mentors meet with their mentees both at school and in the community.
