July 21, 2008

Dear Members of the Mentoring Community,

We are very excited to announce the creation of a new position at Mobius: Director of Recruiting and Program Support. This position that will bring renewed vigor to Mobius’ efforts to attract dedicated volunteers to mentoring and to support programs in their continuous efforts to sustain high-quality and efficient mentoring programs. Kris Reinhardt, a mentor and a veteran Mobius staffer who is well known to the mentoring community, will officially move into the position on July 21st.

Mobius is creating this position to bring greater resources to three key areas – mentor recruiting, program support, and county-wide mentoring capacity growth. By placing the position at the director level, we expect to see longevity that will facilitate closer relationships with program managers, thus improving communication between programs and Mobius. Kris’ duties will include regular communication with program coordinators to learn more about the needs of individual programs. She will provide personalized assistance to program coordinators, depending on their needs and the developmental stage of their program. Kris will also coordinate quarterly meetings of affiliated programs where front-line issues will be discussed and research and compile outstanding examples of program training and evaluation tools that will be available to any program that needs them.

We expect this new position to have a substantial impact on mentor recruitment. Kris will recruit new mentors by coordinating closely with programs and with the public relations staff at Mobius to effectively target paid advertising, direct mail, and free public relations toward attracting new volunteers. She will arrange and organize public events and presentations to civic, social, and business groups. She will follow up and all Mobius’ outreach efforts. Kris will become the point of contact for people calling Mobius with an interest in mentoring and the person who interfaces with programs to refer volunteers. Kris will supervise and have the assistance of Meredith Rivlin, the VISTA volunteer who will be taking Katy Perry’s place after August 18th.

Thank you for welcoming Kris into her new position. With this new position and all of us working together, I know we will see continued growth in our effort to create a culture of mentoring in our communities.

Finally, we would like to express our deepest gratitude to the Permanent Fund for the Well-being of Vermont Children, which is supporting this position for the remainder of 2008. The Permanent Fund continues to be a stalwart supporter of Mobius and a valuable partner to the entire mentoring community.

Sincerely,

Andrea L. Torello
