The Foster Grandparent Program (FGP) provides meaningful volunteer roles for adults 60 years of age or older who are interested in working with children. Volunteers serve from 15-40 hours per week providing supportive one-to-one assistance to special needs children from birth to 21 years of age in a wide variety of community sites. Currently, the Foster Grandparent Program serves senior volunteers and children in Chittenden, Franklin, Grand Isle and Washington Counties. In the past year, 50 volunteers served 1,035 children in 33 sites providing over 36,000 hours of service.

First Year of operation: 1977
Minimum age for mentor: 55
Minimum time commitment: 15-40 hours/week
Minimum length of commitment: one calendar year
