The TriCounty Foster Grandparent Program provides meaningful volunteer roles for older adults. Volunteers serve from 15-40 hours per week providing supportive one-to-one assistance to special needs children from birth to 21 years of age in a wide variety of community sites. Foster Grandparents must be 60 years of age or older, meet income eligibility requirements and be interested in working with children. Currently, the Foster Grandparent Program serves senior volunteers and children in Chittenden, Franklin, Grand Isle, and Washington Counties. In 2004, 52 volunteers served over 790 children in 31 sites providing over 40,000 hours of service.

Minimum age for mentor: 60
Minimum time commitment: 15-40 hours/week
Minimum length of commitment: one year
