Club Compass Mentoring links a young person (K-8th Grade) with a caring, adult mentor. Any community member who supports the mission of the Boys & Girls Club can get involved in youth development in this personal way. Just as a Boys & Girls Club staff member’s one-to-one work with each boy or girl is the key ingredient to deepening impact, a volunteer mentor’s personal attention and guidance can truly open new doors of hope and opportunity for the mentee. Mentors must make a one-year commitment to meet with their mentee at least once a week for 1-2 hours.

Reading Buddies is a site-based mentoring program at the Boys & Girls Club of Burlington.  It started as a reading group and was formalized into a mentoring program with the help of a driven group of volunteers from the Kiwanis Club of Chittenden County.  Mentors are matched with a child, and agree to come to the Club for an hour once a week, for a minimum of one year, with the goal of reading books with their mentee.  We have many children between the ages of 9 and 13 who want extra help with reading and someone to spend time with.  You are free to bring books from the library with you, or pick one of ours.
